Has anyone heard of a SPUI ? It is an acronym for Single Point Urban Interchange and it is coming to an area near you! So as soon as we get used to driving the roundabouts - we will learn how to drive on a SPUI

I think we can be sure we won't see these in Malta. There are a few disadvantages that rule it out. First, the bridge has to be huge. That costs a lot to build and maintain, and clearing of a large amount of snow becomes problematic. That right there would probably rule it out for the Northeast. Second, it requires traffic lights, which gives a big advantage to roundabouts. Third, NYS is trying to be pedestrian and bicycle friendly, but it would be almost impossible to ride a bike across this type of intersection and forget about walking.

If you go to the WRGB web site; there is a recent piece on the SPUI. The news program suggested that they may utilize them in the Northeast. But, as we all know, you can't always believe the news!

This is what the I-787/I-90 interchange between Menands and Albany is. Its actually probably one of the easiest ones to handle, no stopping and smooth traffic flow.

Exit 6, eh? I knew they were planning on replacing that bridge. I guess a SPUI there would be no worse than the current exchange.

The I-90/I-787 intersection is not a SPUI. A SPUI looks like this one that I found on Wikipedia.

Maybe, but the center looks like a German-Iron Cross on Both.
