Make yourself at home and get to know the Luther Forest community. Talk about neighborhood issues, the Town of Malta, the Luther Forest Technology Campus, Ballston Spa, Saratoga Lake, and beyond.
On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Round Lake Library, please accept a huge THANK YOU for your overwhelming support. We are all volunteers devoted to the Library because open access to all forms of information is a basic principle with great merit, even in our rapidly changing society. And we are proud to be your Library!
An added benefit of this campaign has been getting to know you, our constituents -- our customers, a whole lot better. Please take advantage of all the services and programs we offer. And please keep talking to us. Is there a service or program you'd like that we don't have? Tell us and we'll do what we can to get it for you. Do you have some talent or expertise that might interest others? Talk to us about doing a program! Bring us your ideas for fundraisers, volunteer to staff a book sale, etc, etc, etc. You've said you like us, now help us to be even better at serving you.
Sincerely,
Alyse Peterson, Vice President Board of Trustees Round Lake Library
I'd like to see the library cut services that are not specifically book related. Use our tax money for traditional library services. I'm not sure why the library provides song downloads, for example.
I am an avid user of the Malta Public Library and am so pleased as well that the support was so overwhelming. One thought I have for improvement of the library overall would be at the very least requiring those who wish to use the computer to obtain a library card. I believe this would allow for better accountability of computer resources and assure other patrons that the computers/internet are being used in an appropriate manner.
Also, providing computer lessons to older adults would be another idea that would utilize the library and assist Malta residents. I myself know a couple of "computer genius's" at the local high school in need of some volunteer hours through the honor society that would be more than willing to take a couple of hours on the weekends or after school to assist with the teaching of basic computer skills!
Fisher, I don't think you need to thank the people on the library issue. I believe, from the ones I talked to, they were very glad to do it. It feels good to do what is right. We should be thanking the library for help putting this out for a vote for the community to be involved.

The library already does provide computer lessons for older adults. They have found it most helpful to provide 1:1 lessons as people have different skill levels. Please call the library directly to schedule a lesson. Also high school students are encouraged to volunteer and the library is on the Social Study Department's suggested list of agencies looking for volunteers.

Libraries loan media which express opinion, tell stories, and sometimes educate. True it started with books but today's world has many forms of media. The download service is inexpensive compared to buying cds to lend and gives the borrower a much larger pool of choices. Libraries have been loaning music for a long time. I borrowed "Tommy" and "Jesus Christ Superstar" as a teen back in the day. My mother would borrow Bing Crosby albums (that's those big black vinyl cd like thingys if you're younger). Libraries have been lending films for a long time too. People communicate in many ways . Libraries are about the free exchange of ideas.
“I think we all recognize on an ongoing basis we won’t be able to sustain library funding without at some point implementing some kind of property tax,” he said.
I will very soon have to pay because some people do not have a computer and internet.....or don't want to go to REDBOX and pay $1 to rent a movie.
Is there a plan to consolidate the libraries together ?
I'm with Unholy on this. There is nothing "free" about this exchange of ideas. I'm not buying your argument, LA. Actually, I guess I am, whether I want to or not.
Libraries were a great idea back in your day of black vinyl CD like thingies (what's a CD, by the way ). However, the Internet provides me everything a library used to plus much more. Libraries now are a place for the financially challenged or just cheap people to get the same thing that I pay for.
