Hi Folks,
In Dec. I asked folks about alternatives to TW Cable and got a few good responses. Now I want to specifically know if over-the-air antennas work well in the Forest? We live on Sand Spurrey and our lots has MANY trees on it.

Would you please send me your experience with it. Hokieian and ZZephr said then that they an OTA antennas and they work well. I was wondering if they live among tons of trees like we do.

Also, does anyone use an amplified antenna, and if so, can you get more channels with that?

Someone else also said they have an antenna in the attic. I would love to hear how that works as it sounds easier than putting one on the roof.

We're going to eliminate or downgrade our cable and go to streaming internet TV.

Thank you all so much!

Miriam

I installed an OTA antenna in my attic a couple years ago and couldn't be happier. The only problem I had with the installation was getting the antenna unfolded in the attic (the trusses were pretty inconvenient to work around).

I installed it all myself and added an amplifier in the basement. My signal is crystal clear.

An excellent place to start your research is here:

There is a guide that will show you how big of an antenna you need and what kind of amps you need to get a good signal.

I order all my equipment through these guys and they were fast, courteous, and extremely willing to answer all the questions I had. Plus they shipped everything for free. Plus there is a 100% satisfaction guarantee in case you still can't get a clear signal after using the equipment they recommend.

That list plus CW, and MYTV (whatever that is). I think there's also a christian channel that I don't have programmed to show up.

Each of those channels has 2-3 "subchannels" that show weather or different programming (ie, we have 3 PBS channels with different content even though technically it's the same station). I think we've got about 21 channels total. Combined with Netflix (and Netflix streaming) and ESPN3, I'm never hurting for something to watch.

Thanks, hokieian!
This is very useful information. I will look into their service.

All the best,
Miriam
