Just to take a pulse check...
Does anyone take notice of the off target, off the wall rants of letters to the editor like those in the Ballston Journal today? Are they worth responding to or does everyone see them as the same partisan trash we saw a year ago?

These writers are being misinformed or misled by someone or maybe they or their sources just don't care about the facts.

I think they are the same people who made up their minds a long time ago and are not at all interested in facts. They decided that Paul and Tara are the saints and the rest of the board consists of villains. I think its worth responding only because those opinions should not be left out there unchallenged.

What a can of worms. I think these people feel like a lot of us do - too much constuction going on right now. No matter which road you travel on there's constuction. Hopefully, when this is all done and over, things will look much better. And what's with the 20 foot or more of dirt piled high behind those homes on MayApple? Are they just trying to get even with the people who put up a stink over the building of Ellsworth Commons? Don't they realize what's going to happen when we get a good wind storm? Or do they. All that dirt will end up sifting thru-out the neighborhood and homes. Someone should take responsibility for that move.

Some of the very same people who complain about development complain that there are now regulations that require erosion control measures like those short black fences that are designed to contain run off from construction sites. Obviously, these are to contain run off due to water and not wind erosion. But I'd suggest a call to the building department if there's a problem.

Is this newspaper online? I have no interest in spending 50 cents for a 3 page newspaper. I dont think many people read it. It's one step lower than the Saratogian. The Saratogian is a step lower than the Times Union.

Did I read this right?
Pastor Klotz is objecting to people's freedom of speech and calling citizens of Malta stupid? (Misled, uninformed, or misinformed...sounds like if we don't agree with you we are ALL stupid.)Don't forget you are a Pastor AND a Councilman, you're thoughts should be about answering to the citizens of Malta and a higher power than you.

Actually I think he took great care to not call anyone stupid. I missed anything about objecting to freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech doesn't mean that someone can say (or publish) whatever they please, regardless of the truth.

Are these the same letters that were published in the Saratogian? From the description, they sound the same. I'm not sure if partisan really applies, since everyone is in the same party, but it does look like the same old divisive comments. I understand their concerns, but if they had worded the letters without those comments, they would have been more credible.

I think the real concern is the volume and density of the residential projects that are in various stages of implementation and their effects on our taxes and infrastructure. This concern is probably worth responding to, but I'm not sure you should validate their other comments by sending a response to the papers.

By partisan, I was trying to note the parties within parties. As you say, even "bad apples" are still part of the Republican Party.
I can appreciate the concern and apprehension about change in Malta. The Town Board has been reviewing the design and planning standards for neighborhood six (aka downtown) and without bloodshed Smile we seem to be converging on some common ground.

Get used to the term "downtown". Just Meats is using it on their flyers, they are located in "downtown Malta". Right now, just sounds a little strange.

Delicious or gourmet? At $3,260,000, that is some expensive land. My guess is that it will sit vacant for quite a while until either the rest of the "downtown" builds up around it or the price drops.

Mr. Meager should expand Northway Estates Mobile Home Park into the Northway Travel Trailers site. It's a beautiful park and wouldn't hurt the downtown at all. Better than seeing a lot of empty store fronts.

Yes, and if an average trailer is on a tenth of an acre lot, then I'm sure lots of people will be clamoring to get those $74,000 trailer lots. Big Grin

Roy, the people at Northway Estates RENT the lots, they don't buy them. Take a ride thru there sometime, it's mostly double wides and not your average trailer park. Not at all like Malta Gardens. Actually the upkeep of the mobile homes in Northway Estates are a lot better than some of the townhomes in the Forest. Each lot is groomed and maintained by the owner of the mobile home and there are strict rules that have to be abided by. No junk cars or boats in any of the driveways either. Mostly retirees or people over 55 live there.

JP, I think you missed my point. I'm not making any statement about the upkeep of the trailer park. The owner of the land has to make a profit, otherwise they won't lease the lots. If each lot costs the owner $74,000 plus infrastructure, rent for one of the lots would be over $1000/month, and that's assuming the lots are only 0.1 acres each.

Roy, maybe I'm wrong, but isn't John Meager the owner of the property that Northway Travel Trailers is on? I think he was at one point. I know he owns the mobile home park. What I was trying to say is if he owns the travel trailer dealership he should expand the mobile home park. Just a thought.

Oh, I understand. I'm not sure who owns it. However, if they can get anywhere near $3M for it, they'd be foolish to use the property for a trailer park. For that matter, I'd be surprised to see the existing Northway Estates last much longer once the rest of the "downtown" starts developing.

OHHHHHH don't even say that. Some of those people have been there for many years and the newer double wides cost a great deal of money. I have a lot of friends living there. They would be devastated.
