What do you guys think of people that run for office and donate their salary? Initially, it looks like a nice gesture...but I have to wonder, why would they do that? It's not like the gov't is saving money, the salary is still being dispursed. Is this a new trend to win election. Why would anyone not accept a salary for doing work. Somehow, somewhere the guy must be getting a kickback, or plans on helping someone who is supporting his run. I just dont get it. It's hard for me to believe the guy is donating his time and energy for the people, with nothing in return.

How much is the guy worth? It could be that he already gives around that much to charity, so this would just be spin to gain some good PR.

I would vote for him just because he is a Dem. I do agree it isn't saving the taxpayers money unless he donates it back into the budget.

I read that story too. It is an odd thing to do.Donating your salary doesn't mean you will be a better assemblyman than the next guy, however. It just means you are charitable. I wouldn't vote for him for that reason but only if he is a good candidate for the job. I think it is a gimmick to get attention. He got it.
