We do now have a Malta Democratic Committee! Officers were elected and another meeting scheduled for Feb 8 at 6pm. We are hoping to find people willing to run in the next election.
Please consider coming to the next meeting.

I'm curious as to what differences the Democratic Party has to offer the Town of Malta in terms of real and tangible policies in leu of the current Republican ones.

I mean I'm glad to see a different party step up to bat, but would decisions made by each have any REAL differentiation from one-another?

I think what makes the Republican party in Malta look so nebulous is the giant schism that exists within the bowels of the party, with two factions including one mostly conservative faction (the Sausvillains) and a more moderate faction (the Nolen-Winter-Klotzians) that more closely resembles a Democratic Party platform (which is partially why in the last election, both parties endorsed Peter Klotz).

Real and tangible policies will come from the dems and will hopefully bring a welcome, refreshing change to Malta!

"Klotzian?"

I guess I should be flattered to be an adjective.

I'm glad you appreciate that there are differences among Republicans. But I wouldn't characterize the differences as conservative/moderate and on some issues I might make further distinctions than you do in your post.

I have not seen this type of political faction nomenclature since the Jeffersonians and the Hamiltonians back in 1800.

haha, yes that's a gem. What of the fact that the founding fathers a.k.a "patriots" could give two s**ts about the amorphous concept of "freedom".

They just didn't want to pay taxes.

In any event, I totally agree with that.

In fact, taxation is still at the forefront of American problems. However, on second thought, the freedom from over-taxation is a freedom non-the-less, so maybe those -tougher than I'll ever be- founding father types were still on to it in a round-about way.

and no pun intended for the round-about comment.

well, having been around Malta since the 60's I have seen a lot of people try to make a Democratic committee work in Malta.....and all they have to show is Mary Pasquarel's(sp?) longtime Clerk position.....I'm glad that a committee is in place and I wish you luck.

Indeed, and hopefully the series of Democratic successes at the Federal and State levels, particularly with a democratic U.S. Congresswoman representing our district, bodes well for the party locally in the 2009 fall elections....
