Malta lost its rural character back when Mrs Luther died and the trees in Luther Forest were replaced with buildings. Other development followed and we got a market, drugstores, and lots of people. Its going to keep growing and I hope the town sticks to the master plan so that or growth will be in the "downtown area" and we can walk to restaurants and shops. I hope our elected officials will stick to the master plan that they approved.

Or did Malta lose it's rural character when the original forest was cut down and the Luther Forest tree farm was planted?
But I agree that the Master Plan process provides for a wide range of people to contribute to the future of the community. If individuals disagree with the plan there are ways to amend the plan that also involve input from the whole community.

YES!! Thank you Peter. This is what I have been saying... we need more members of the board that are willing to compromise and look at the bigger picture instead of digging in and holding on to their own personal opinion.

The downtown overlay of the master plan was created with an enormous amount of public input or at least opportunity for input. It took 18 months the work out the details and get it just the way the majority of us wanted it. If someone wants to change it now, I suggest they pony up their own money (not my tax dollars again) to fund the same process with the same amount of input opportunities. If amendments are agreed upon after all of that, I'd be okay with it.
