I was just informed that Roger Crandall's Excavating company was sued for $2 Million dollars by the estate of a man who was killed when one of Crandall's truck drivers backed over him and killed him back in 2002. The lawsuit was filed in 2003. At least Tom Adriance's legal problems have been personal and do not cause a liability to the town, but Crandall's had a lawsuit against his own company. (I verified this information by checking the Archives of the Saratogian).
He says that he has leadership skills - from where, the three employees he has ever had, himself, his wife and one truck driver? I would take a proven experienced person like Tom Adriance with over 20 years in the Highway Department over someone who can say anything they want to get elected until they get in the position and actually realize they can't do anything they promised because they didn't know what the job actually entailed. Also, why is the road Crandall lives on a private road, can't he get it up to Town standards or doesn't he know how to build it to town standards. (Canadian Court is not town owned and the town does not maintain it). I could go on and on, I am going to vote for the experienced, proven candidate - Tom Adriance. |

I heard about this too! It's pretty scary....

But did'nt Adriance get caught drunk driving multiple times? Thats more of an indication of personal responsibility rather than an unfortunate construction accident. I will agree with you that experience matters... but maybe we need new blood.

Agree with SHO. Seems like getting caught driving drunk not once but twice is much more of a liability to the town than someone not even involved in a fatal accident. Anybody can file a lawsuit. I also fail to see the significance of living on a private road? What does that have to do with anything? Whoever "Concerned for Malta" and "Ice" are (probably the same person, if not, I'll bet good money that one of them is actually TA), come up with something legitimate before you start slinging contrived mud all over the Luther Forest message boards. These types of personal attacks aren't doing anything to get me to vote for you. Why not focus on your achievements instead? |
WOW guess i will have to vote for Micky Mouse as both of these guys have problems

The point being made is that Roger Crandall is saying that the current highway superintendent is not properly training the employees and obviously Roger has not trained his employees either or the truck driver would never have backed over someone.
Also, if Roger gets into office, he will, I'm sure, have the town workers bring his road up to code so the Town can take it over, costing us tax payers $$$$ and increased taxes. Tom's personal problems have never interfered with his ability to perform his job and has not affected the Town in any way. He has never drank while he was on the job and does not take his responsibilities lightly, unlike others. Crandall spends all of his time going from Stewart's to Stewart's to Croteau's repair shop to Morris' repair shop. I am sure he will continue to do his visiting even after he gets the job at the taxpayers cost. He said once when he was interviewed by the Republican Committee that he "wanted to get an easy job before retirement so he could put his feet up and let someone else handle the work". He sounds like a real go-getter. Obviously his business must be really bad if he has all of this free time. I hope Mr. Crandall realizes that he will be making about $40,000 if he gets the job as Kevin King, our money-pinching town comptroller, will never allow a newby to start out at the current Highway Superintendent's salary. And by the way I am not TA and also not the same person as Ice. Try again .... |

Sue ? Is that you ...again ?
Wrong again as usual unholy!

You just joined - how can you say "as usual" ?
Don't hate me because i am beautiful. |

The guy was a truck driver for a reason. No matter how much training somone gets people are still bound to eff up. Thats why we have organizations like OSHA. With that same logic I could say that Adriance drove drunk because he wasn't trained adequately on how to pass a field sobriety test while hammered. |

UnHoly, you notice how some of these new people on this site just came on right before election. They have an agenda, take what they say with a grain of salt. They are trying to sway 5 votes - the 5 people that use this site - me, you, jp, merry, and Whitey. I guess they feel it's worth the effort. Anyways, Sue has my vote, I just want to screw things up for the Republican Committee. |
And at least one of those five is a born, utterly unreconstituted, proud to be you and me, Roosevelt Democrat who won't be swayed by the silly, vindictive b-s we see way too much of in the early autumns here in forest critterville. God, DA, they are sooooooo tiresome. Just how dimwitted do they think we are? Never mind, I know the answer to that one already.

This is a noble cause. Cue the opening speech from Gladiator. |

I don't get it! Why have a category for politics and then gripe about politics being discussed? |
IMHO, I love that we discuss Malta politics here. Where else is there such a forum to learn about local issues? I especially love Mr. Klotz's input on this board and the time he takes to address concerns, rumors, etc. What I don't like, however, is candidates (or their minions) creating multiple new usernames on this board just for the purpose of slinging mud on their opponents. Unless they want to participate in a rationale discussion, I'd prefer they just stay away. |
I don't agree with mudslinging either, and I try to participate in rational discussions. The longtimers on here, like Unholy, diminish every substantive issue to something suitable for an earthworm. Very often things being said are true and some people can't handle that. |
I like Sue Nolen but I'm not sure Tom Adriance should be on the ticket after 3 DWI arrests. If Mr. Adirance was applying for a position with a corporation, after the background check, he would never get hired because it would cost too much to insure him. So why would the Town take the chance? He hasn't been sober for that long.
I think the law is that you cannot run for office if commit a felony. But, there are no laws preventing someone from running for office is they have DWI's. Just don't vote for him if you don't want him in office. Simple as that. Honestly, do you think whoever is the highway superintendent will have any impact on the average resident in Malta? Anyone seriously backing Crandall or Adriance are people that personally know them. |
Well, perhaps mistakenly, I thought that after 3 DWI arrests one gets a felony DWI conviction.
P.S. Felony DWI charges are brought when a driver has a prior misdemeanor DWI conviction within 10 years. |
That's good, though. It needs to be broken down to be digestible to an earthworm because that's where the facts are. The devil, as it were, is in the details. |
