I am sad to say that the citizens of Malta continue to be represented, in part, by some members of the Town Board that have no interest in protecting them from the stronghold of big businesses trying to locate within the Town of Malta. The case in point relates to the 2/4/08 Town Board meeting in which the Board was being asked to approve the Foundation Agreement between the Town of Malta and the Luther Forest Technology Campus Economic Development Corp. (LFTCEDC) for the 5.5 miles of roads to be constructed in the Luther Forest Technology Campus (LFTC) which may ultimately house AMD. This includes the waterline/utility funding, LFTCEDC’s continuing obligation, interest payments and the Host Community benefit. This is a legally binding agreement between the Town of Malta and the Luther Forest Technology Campus Economic Development Corp.
Prior to acting on the above resolution, the Town’s Attorney, Thomas Peterson, made four significant recommendations to amend the agreement, all of which were to insure that the Town’s interest in the project would be well protected. (Of special mention is the fact that Mr. Peterson only received the document to review on the Friday prior to the Board meeting and due to the fact that he was relocating his office, he was unable to fully review the document and make the recommendations to the Board prior to the presentation at the Board meeting.) Nonetheless, in my opinion, the recommendations made by Mr. Peterson were extremely relevant in protecting the Town and absent these recommendations being included in the document, would leave the Town of Malta in a lesser position. Supervisor Sausville asked Mike Relyea, Executive Director of LFTCEDC, if he had any objection to the amended language. Mr. Relyea was visibly disturbed and stated he’d like to have at least have five minutes to discuss it with his legal council. That reaction immediately raised a red flag to me about why the LFTCEDC would have any issue with the amended language. How could this possibly hurt the LFTCEDC and if so, how would not amending the language potentially come back to hurt the Town of Malta? These are serious questions and it seemed to me a no brainer that the Town of Malta would also be suspicious and thus, accept the changes made by their own legal council without rebuttal as it left the Town in a much more favorable position. Again, I was sadly mistaken. Councilwoman Sue Nolen completely blew up at the thought of any delay in approving this document “as is”. It was her contention that it was unfair to make these changes at the last minute giving the LFTCEDC no chance to review and accept the changes. If I am not mistaken, she even made the statement that this was “pulling the wool over their (LFTCEDC) eyes” and she wouldn’t stand for it. Whose interest is Councilwoman Nolen representing anyway? Why would she choose to oppose a legal document which strengthened the Town’s interest in a very expensive project such as this $5.5 million road project in Luther Forest which will pave the way for AMD if they ever choose to locate in Malta. It is the Town Board’s fiduciary responsibility to see that the Town is protected from potential issues on this and every project that could come back and ultimately cost the Town large sums of money. The Town has no obligation to accommodate anyone’s timeframe in order to expedite anything if it doesn’t ultimately protect their residents. If Councilwoman Nolen was so concerned about the lack of time the LFTCEDC had to respond to Mr. Peterson’s recommended amendments, why didn’t she make a motion to delay the vote until adequate time was made available for LFTCEDC’s council to review the recommended changes and then respond back to the Town Board. She seemed far more concerned about not delaying the project, rather than protecting the people she represents. The Town Board, I am happy to say, did ultimately approve the amendments recommended by Mr. Peterson with the sole dissenting vote from Councilwoman Nolen. I believe Ms. Nolen needs to explain her actions in this matter and prove to the residents of Malta that she is, in fact, representing them at these Board meetings, and not the interests of the big business factions trying to locate in Malta. This is a serious matter that needs addressing. I can only hope an appropriate response is forthcoming. |

tl;dr Lynda still hates Sue Nolen

Again, Whitey the mindreader. Not that I care what you think, but I actually like Sue. We have always had a very cordial relationship outside of the Board. You don't know me and you certainly have no clue about how I feel about ANYTHING! Maybe you should do some research before making unintelligent remarks. You CAN disagree with people without having personal animosity towards them. At least I am mature enough to. Obviously that is foreign to you though. The fact that you speak in "letters" that mean nothing to anyone but yourself, shows that you are incapable of being open and honest.

Lynda,
Not to worry, consider Nolen done when her term ends. She will not win re-election. There are a couple people planning on running next election. |

This one's a freebie: TL;DR is internet slang for "Too Long; Don't (or didn't) Read". TFIAS for "The following is a summary" doesn't have the catchiness. If you're not going to look up things you don't understand, don't accuse me of being closed or dishonest. After the last time you got your uninformed knickers in a twist over nothing, I don't know why you're picking fights.
Sue's one of five votes and if she wants to stand on her own for what she perceives as a moral injustice, that's her call until your ventriloquists find her replacement. So if you're the pro, enlighten me. What kind of research does one do in order to make unintelligent remarks? |

One "researches" in order to "avoid" unintelligent remarks.

Lynda...just ignore him, he either has no stake in this town....or he's in Love!

"Strategery"

Yeah, Lynda, ignore the acerbic voice of reason. Keep listening to Kathy Eitzmann's soothing whine buzzing in the back of your head at board meetings as you uncomfortably stammer hatred just loud enough to contribute noise without the risk of identification amongst the mob.
"Protection of Malta's Future Currently Doubtful?" over one incidence of Sue Nolen, who has been dragged through the mud already, asking a question of morality over springing a change in contract on some developers. Granted I don't agree with the project, but give me a good darn break. |

Whitey is one of those kids brought up in the text messaging world. You've seem them, sitting in a bar or coffeehouse, but instead of talking to the person he is with, he is text messaging someone not with him. I cannot relate to his generation. This is the generation, for example, where you see 4 friends hanging out together but all on their cellphone talking to someone else. It's bizarre activity. The text messaging thing is really strange. Kinda like the way schoolchildren passed notes to each other in grade school.

here's a link to Whitey's world. It's a language that will never be used in the business world, it's mainly used by pizza delivery drivers, or those guys like Whitey who secretly watch Hannah Montana when their parents aren't home.

I agree,
Fellowship in general seems regarded as passé. Too much distrust, not enough love. I don't really care too much about the topic matter of this post. Not that I don't care, just that I don't have a solid opinion, anyways... Whitley's just using internet lingo, who cares? If thats the worst you can say about somone then I guess that person is doing pretty good. HAPPY WEEKEND!!! |

Actually, we do use it in the office- because we very rarely communicate face to face with someone. That's what happens when operations expand beyond your tiny little world. Get a job and catch up with the rest of humanity. Unless you're one of those retirees that only comes to message boards for acknowledgment, in which case ignore this message. Since it's finally come up, I'm a Duff man, and I 'm not saying I wear a baseball cap and cape to sell beer if you know what I mean. |

DA, What a keen observation of the mellennials. Kudos.

Your next president will understand it. |

You really think McCain will understand? ROTFLOL Back to the topic of the post, as always, I'm the optimist, so here's my take. I'm glad that even after all of the election season antics, Sue is still willing to stand up for what she believes in. I'm glad that the board isn't unanimous in all of their decisions. I'm glad that the board ultimately went with our attorney's recommendations. I'm glad that the project wasn't delayed. I'm glad that our town government seems to be more functional than it was near the end of last year. |

A clever nonsequitur, but yes. |

Whitey, just out of curiousity, where exactly did you learn these abbreviations? I know they aren't taught in school or college. Is this a language you list on your resume, under Education?
|
||||
|
That doesn't sound curious, that sounds malicious. Regardless, I probably learned them from message boards, but to be honest I couldn't pick any one out amongst them. I know one of the interns once showed me "urban dictionary" and I got a kick out of that. Good place to start.
