We should all be concerned that the state of New York is moving to take over LFTC.
See the Times Union article in Saturday's paper: http://www.timesunion.com/busi...rest-site-719407.php The state can excuse itself from agreements, regulations and inspections and it can abandon measures that we put in place over the past dozen or so years that address serious economic and environmental concerns. We may wind up at the mercy of the same DEC that just lost its top boss and that has been cut by close to 25% in the past three years. The details have not been spelled out yet, but if you live near LFTC, you should be watching this takeover very carefully! |

This would be the worse thing for the residents. The state definitely doesn't care how we feel about what could impact us day-to-day.
Can we do anything to ensure this doesn't happen? Why are the locals dragging their feet? Maybe this treat will cause them to end their spats and start moving. |
There will be lots of finger pointing, but the article seems to indicate that it's not the Town, but LFTCEDC that is prompting this.
The article also states they haven't paid back the money they borrowed - $1.75 million, so they are going to foreclose on the property.

Time for a good ole'fashion RIOT !
Let's BURN this TECH PARK down !! |

Whitey - bring your flask and skittles ! It's party time !

Unholy, I'm up for the riot. But we should have been out there a few years ago when this thing was in the works.
When you go to the TU link, the bottom of the page gives you access to another article about an Intel site. Even our pep rallys billed as public comment sessions produced people who spoke first hand of emissions. And yet, our planning friends said it a swell idea to plop it down within feet of our homes. Sorry Peter. God didn't want this, greedy economic boosters wanted this. Just 'cause it moves doesn't make it progress. Sounds like we residents can kiss our lungs goodbye even before we do our a$$es. |
And Miriam, much as I love you, I'd suggest that it would be hard to find a crowd less interested in the welfare of Luther Forest residents than the Saratoga economic development people, not to mention our own town fathers and those mothers who have always spoken out of both side of their mouths on this. To the press: oh we've made tons of progess towards getting ready, just look at the two round-abouts on Dunning/Plains Rd. To us: oh, heavens, not to worry, Tech Park traffic will use the Route 9 entrance solely. What crap. How old are we people? Were we born yesterday? Quel surprise, corporations and their public lackeys might lie to us!!!! I'm shocked, SHOCKED.

RIOT!!!!!!!!! Yeah, lets make the '68 Democratic convention look like a tea party.

I'm with you, Merry. I was against this from the start, still am, but what can we do now? I'm just afraid the State might be even worse, if that's possible. I love you too! <3 |

Merry, I read the article on the emissions and it is indeed some scary S+*#@! Miriam |

I never wanted GF in Luther Forest and I can't say I'm sorry that the future of the project is in jeopardy.

Don't worry folks, you and I will be paying for that too. Keep those taxes going up, soon everyone will have to leave NYS in order to survive. This will be a big blow to Saratoga County as well as Malta.

Whether you love the project or hate it - you need to be heard. I'll admit that was fairly apathetic when this whole thing started. On the fence between wanting new opportunities in the area and disdain at losing the forest and snowmobile trails.
Now that it's begun, The question becomes, how can this project best serve the residents and the local community. There have been a plethora of planning meetings, town hall meetings, etc... how many have the people who live here attended? I've been to some, but certainly not enough. The best way to see this through is to be involved in the process. Ask questions, show up, keep track of what's happening and stay informed. Let your representatives know what you like and don't like. That's the only way this can come together well. |
Peter, There really isn't anything we can do, right? You come across like this is a bad thing. The State provided the money to finance this project, it only seems right they take it over and oversee it. Besides, when we the last time we heard from our Town Supervisor anyways. |
I can understand that GF is concerned about getting their utility and infrastructure needs met in a timely way. Yes, the state (we taxpayers) have big bucks invested in this.
The town has worked hard to address health and safety concerns as well as negotiate fees and other contributions to cover town expenses and concerns. Once the state gets involved, we would possibly or probably lose our planning, zoning and safety inspection roles. The state could quite possibly unilaterally redefine major aspects of the whole project. School and fire taxes could be set aside. The details are not clear yet, but the stakes are very high. |

WELL, I see people on here that were all for the tech site, growth, expantion, and building up rte 9 because they were coming.
Now I see a few two faced people here, saying I didn't want this, I was against it, etc. I was totaly against the building up of rte 9, if the state takes charge your tech site will be out of here in 10 years, all that growth will turn to tumble weed. Sometimes it best to watch what you wish for. I am sure The Rev. Klotz will say a prayer for all of you. And the Mr. Klotz will try to help the communty to understand what could happen and what they really wished for. If you don't have a solution or and idea to help, don't cry fowl. IT IS TOO LATE!!!!!! |
noon, you are a weirdo. The Topic is the State taking over this project. Please stop the old tired argument of who wanted it and who didn't. Now, I think Peter is using this scare tactic because he enjoyed the town controlling the site. Since the State is funding the money, they should take it over. I trust the state running it over our town. We have a Town Supervisor and Board that all agree with each other on everything they do. There is no oversight to their actions. This town is not a balanced run town by people with different views. |

Global Foundries probably got sick of getting nickeled and dimed by the Town of Mayberry and TweedleDee and TweedleDum. I would assume (probably dumb on my part) a NYS department would have more experience in these type of construction matters.
GF ain't going no where - it's grandstanding on their part - a power play to break free of local ties that bind them. |
