Just a piece of news I came across today in the Times Union.
The chief operating officer for the Texas company that helped Advanced Micro Devices Inc. build its two chip fabs in Dresden, Germany, has bought a condo in Saratoga Springs.

Rick Whitney, COO for M+W Zander of Plano, Texas, confirmed he bought one of the condos built in the city by developer Sonny Bonacio.

M+W Zander has an office at the Watervliet Arsenal, and it worked with AMD on its initial design plans for Fab 4X, which AMD is planning for the Luther Forest Technology Campus in Malta. M+W Zander is also the general contractor for the expansion at Albany NanoTech and new technology space at the arsenal.

But Whitney warned us not to jump to any conclusions about his purchase and AMD’s plans for Luther Forest. AMD has not yet officially committed to the site and has not named a general contractor.

In fact, Whitney, who is not related to Saratoga Springs socialite Marylou Whitney, says he’s been renting in the area for two years because he spends so much time here on existing projects.

“This has nothing whatsoever to do with AMD,” he said. “I’d really rather there be no mention of my personal dealings in the paper. It made more sense to purchase.”
