I live on Larkspur and lost a couple sections of fence which have allowed a black cat to wander into the yard.

The cat looks relatively young, all black and no collar.

I've not seen him before so I thought I would ask in case someone is missing the little fella.

Drop me an email at deavila@nycap.rr.com

I've seen him a couple times on Thimbleberry as well. Very friendly, de-clawed, so definately an indoor kitty.

Hi, this is definitely a different cat I think. This is really a kitten and he does have claws.

Extremely friendly and he keeps coming over. I'm actually going to really begin to keep my eye on him and hope he has a home (looks a little skinny). I'll probably even put a collar on him (quite irresponsible to let a cat out without one).

If he just keeps making his way to us -- he just might be adopting us (until we hear something different).

PanMan -- anyone over on your side of the street have a collarless black kitten loose???

Hey MS_Gkygrl, Funny you mention this. That cat slinked across our yard right in front of the sliding door just today. I don't know of anyone on this side missing a black cat. You fare the winter ok?

Hi Pan Man -- the Winter was just fine. How was yours???

If you see "Midnight" (our name for him) around or think you know his whereabouts, please let me know. Otherwise he'll find a new home pretty quickly with us.

The little "girl" is back after a couple of days and is in heat (period and all) probably hunting for her suitor.

I just don't understand how someone who might own this little girl is letting her wander about AND has not had her fixed.

Very irresponsible.

Forest Critters -- what would you do in my situation?

- adopt the cat, fix it, etc and keep her.

- let her wander about as-is creating a new little colony.

She does not wear a collar.

On the one hand, I hate to think of taking someone's housepet. On the other hand, it is completely irresponsible of them.

Though it is clearly not your responsibility, it would be very thoughtful of you to have the cat fixed (perhaps if you tell the vet that it is a stray, they can give a discount).

In my opinion, if this cat does have an owner, they have forfeited their right to call this cat their pet. It is so irresponsible of them to let it wander around un-spayed and probably un-vaccinated. A real "owner" wouldn't do that.

Around this time last year, I was in the same situation as you. Two (!) young cats were wandering around my home and were clearly hungry. I took both in and wound up finding a home for one of them.

Hope this helps...

Oh, hell, take her in. She's misearble in her current state. And follow up on the discount idea. Good luck with her. This very exciting! Maybe you could name her Dorothy for Dorothy Dandrich (or however one should spell her name) or Hussy (since she's currently shameless and without standards with regard to romance) or even Liz or Elizabeth Taylor, another raven haired beauty who was most open to male suiters.

Thanks for everyone's encouragement!

I have everything in place now to get her spayed by using a certificate issued by https://friendsofanimals.org/ (for $65.00). I found a participating Vet in Ballston Spa who takes the certificate (as well as many other Vets in the area). This is a GREAT option for anyone that finds strays and wants to do "the right thing".

I did call Malta Animal Hospital and they wanted $250.00 for the spaying procedure and would not apply any discounts -- this does not seem right???

When the little girl comes back around, we are ready to take her in.

Remember if you're trying to catch strays that they might bite. Cats have saliva that can carry disease. If you get bit, you're really supposed to go to the hospital.

Jeff, yes -- understood. I've already interacted with it, held it and it is not that skiddish.

I also have two feral cats that I socialized and raised, so I do understand the biting thing.

Yes, a cat bite can be really dangerous.

Merry - yes I believe it! I have a carrier with food, water and a blanket set up for her outside for when she comes around. I don't expect to see her in the rain -- but just in case.

We'll definitely take pics. We are such cat nerds. ;-)

you can try saratoga animal shelter, they charge less than $65 i think since it's a stray.

I am having my male cat neutered tomorrow at malta animal hospital, yea, they charge $200 for the two minutes chop chop. Smile My cat actually saw this black cat, a very friendly cat indeed. Seemed somewhat mal-nutritioned.

Definitely on the skinny side -- I am doubtful she will come around in the rain, today.

I think she needs a good de-worming and good feeding. Poor little tyke!

Well, little kitty is in hand and safe now (before a tough few days ahead of rain). I did not see "him" for the past day or two due to rain/cold (upon closer look, seems to be a him -- he is pure black from nose to tail, hard to tell). He has a bit of a cough and possibly worms:

He is very domesticated and friendly -- he just ate and is crashed right now in a little kitty bed. He knew were to go.

Thanks for everyone's support. If an owner miraculously arises -- which I have doubts -- I would pass the kitty along with reservations. Maybe he was a community kitty? He's been coming to our house since Friday the 13th (spooky). Anyway, that's long enough -- he was hunting for moles here and trying to scrape up food.

He's home now.

I have a Vet appt. today to get a physical and make sure he/she (still not COMPLETELY sure) has shots, tested and make sure we are ready to work in a slow integration with our other felines. We are two kitty geeks.

"Boo-Boo Kitty" is very affectionate and playful -- definitely removed from Mommy a little too early (sucking on my pinky and kneading away). This little kitty needs a lot of attention and affection. I have a collar on Boo-Boo (doesn't seem to mind it at all) and a tag on the way.
