I suspect the amount of traffic the sites receives is low enough not to cost more than $200 a year in hosting fees. I'm sure the Neighborhood association could pick that up. They were talking about doing a web site anyway, so the forums would basically be free.
I have the skill set to manage the project, but I'm not about to pay for the domain.
Jeff, We forgive your ignorance in this matter. There are multiple Associations in Luther Forest, depends on which neighborhood you are in.
For example - Ermine Lair already has a website at drm.net, run by their Neighborhood Assoc and Board, with it's own messageboard.
You'd probably have to use your own money to pay for this. Many people use this website, it's not specific to one Association. I'd have to wonder why one Association would pay for this site that is used by people from multiple Associations.
But if you're setting up a web site, the added cost of hosting the additional forums is insignificant. Why not give something back to the community if it doesn't cost you anything?
Oh, come on people. This is where I routinely go to see how cold it is (or hot in the summer). I'd miss even the cat poking through the pet sitting ad.
You're going to have a complete mess trying to get an Association pay for this site. Everyone will want to advertise, who decides on the ad rates, etc...I wouldn't go down that road.
In addition, if you are paying for the name, can you boot Malta Interactive and run it yourself or are they part of the deal?
If the admin is losing money on this site ...is it possible for people to donate to have it around ...like a fund drive ? I would pay something a year to keep this up ...i like the people and the info i get.
The costs involved for a site with this level of volume are minimal. Like I said, under $200 a year. It's hobby money, less than Starbucks once a week.
You don't need advertisers. They're offering to sell the domain name. If one were to buy it, you wouldn't have to involve future media or anyone else.
What about the advertisers? If each one paid $40.00 a year to advertise that would pay for the site. That's cheap advertising. What are they paying now?
Right ...the hope for the seller is that LutherForest.com is worth something to someone ...like someone is willing to pay some good amount of cash for it. Then they own LutherForest.com and can do what they want with it.
The advertisers already pay much more than $40.00 per year, It doesn't sound like a financial issue as much as perhaps Bob needs to devote his time to other issues.
Right on, Hugh. Listen gang, I like our advertisers. Hugh is a great source of information and a friend to us. Furtermore, as stated earlier, I've grown fond of the cute cat. I would certainly ante up some money because this has become (now don't laugh) a social outlet for me. I'm home with my mother almost all the time (oh, God, I am pathetic; what's worse: that the statement is true or that I'm announcing it?) I have no skills so I could be of no help on this, unless it's really, really, really easy. But save us someone. Even the grees shading makes me happy. Please, please save me, Unholy, and the peeking cat.
